Sneakers do not have to be a fashion faux pas. Like jeans, sneakers have gone designer, and casual does not necessary mean dirty or unkempt. For a casual clothing choice that still looks upscale, wear clean sneakers that look like a pair that you have not run in, hiked in, or got caught in the rain in. Or if you have done anything like that, be sure to scrub them until they shine, but a good rule of thumb is that if it is worn to work hard, it probably is not appropriate for an upscale casual look. Also be sure that it matches what you are wearing – do not wear red sneakers with a white shirt, and do not wear white sneakers with a black shirt. When in doubt, go with the darker colors. Remember, all sneakers are equal, but some are more equal than others. Just because you opt to go casual does not mean that your sneakers need to be sloppy.
