Marcel Duchamp (Dada) cufflinks. Duchamp’s Dada was one of the most influential periods in art which caused many art critics and intellectuals to begin to question their notions of fine art. His theories of anti-art and absurdity blended together to create an interesting yet important movement that threw the boundaries of ‘art’ out of the window and created a space for everyone to express themselves artistically if they chose to. His famous exhibition piece ‘Fountain’ caused an uproar in the art community, and led to his eventual withdrawal from upper artists circles and consequent retirement to play chess.
