Vintage swallows cufflinks for a touch of charm.
These vintage swallow tattoos are a symbol that has strong associations with nautical history. They were used traditionally as a way to show off how much sailing experience a sailor had – one swallow tattooed on a sailor’s chest mean that he had sailed for 5,000 nautical miles which was quite a feat in early sailing history. Two tattooed swallows meant that a sailor had sailed for 10,000 nautical miles, and so on, until the legacy of the sailing swallow tattoos was firmly established. These tattoos also have a strong romantic history which says that the swallows will always carry you safely home, which is why they are so popular still today.
